In-Studio Installations and Sketches
Gallery Aferro Residency
Money for Nothing
This group of installations examines, to varying degrees, desire, indulgence, excess or lack thereof, and collapse. It is motivated primarily by the current socio-econcomic recession. It is also informed by the hoarding of wealth, real and imagined.
Untitled (two fists), 2010. Installed in studio. Black latex paint and rhinestones on wall. Dimensions variable.
Set high on the wall, this work consists of two fists with diamonds spilling down the wall in a line. Large stones hang above the fists, and are crushed into smaller stones as they pass through the fists until they are just specks near the bottom of the wall.

In Untitled (two figures 1) and Untitled (two figures 2) figures wrestle in business attire, with one figure in each twosome at a clear disadvantage. Gems spew from the lips of one and fall from the trousers of the other.

In this work the gesture points directly at the viewer, and while familar, remains unclear as to whether or not it is demanding, desiring, showing, or accusing - the hand of a superior, a lover, a judge, or a recruiter.

Installed in corners, Untitled (open hand 1) and (open hand 2) each consists of two hands, installed one above the other on each of two walls. In open hand 1 the upper hand spills diamonds straight down the wall, completely missing the lower hand. In open hand 2, the rhinestones drift from the upper left hand toward and past the lower hand, with no stones actuallty touching the lower hand.
